MR A. J. WILLIS.
ITOEB3 ASSOCIATION* TELJEGBAM-) WELLINGTON, September 28. Mr A. J. Willis, ex-Clerk of the Excciitivo Council, the oldest Civil Servant in Now Zealand, died, to-day, aged S'.l years, lie was born in Cape Colony, entered tho Tasmanian Civil Service when twelve years old, and the Now Zealand Service in 1860, as secretary to the Otatif) Provincial Council. He was secretary to tho Cabinet and Clerk of the Executive Council from tho abolition of the Provinces till he retired last year. Tho deceased was twice married. He leaves a widow, one son (Mr \\ . Willis, of Gore), and one daughter (Mrs Hill J:iek, i>! Dnnedin) by Ins first wile, and the following; by the second wife:—Mrs K. Geach (Sydney), Mrs Will Lawson. -Airs I). Steel, (Johiisonville), .Mrs A. Hubbard (Mastorton), Mrs Mown It (Blenheim), and the Misses Willis (2). and five sons —Mr Georgo Willis (secretary of tho Wellington Charitable Aid 'Board), Mr 11. Willis (Wairanipa Farmers' Association), Mr Cecil Willis (fourth engineer of tho Maori), and Messrs F. and R. Willis (Bleiihoini).
