SHIPPING NOTES.

During tho past, few das-s on exceptionally largo amount of inward cargo has been handled at Lyttelton, as in addition to tho ordinary coastal time-table steamers, there has been a large fleet cf oversoa vessels in port, -ine Corinthic, from London, Drayton Grange from Liverpool, and Indralema from New York, have all been landing large quantities- of "general" nicircbandißc,- the barque Marie has been discharging case oil, several colliers liaxc been putting but coal, and the other vessels Lave boen landing timber. Naturally thero has bedn a heavy strain on the rolling stock, and trucks have been somewhat short in supply. Nevertheless, tho Railway Department has been working to cope with the rush, and fivd or six • extra Roods trains have been despatched cvory day to Christchurch. Outward cargo has also beeii pouring into tho port for shipment, and special frozen mutton trains have been running. The departure of the Drayton/ Grange for Dunedin has been postponed -until noon today. It i« expected that the White Star liner Corinthic will saii to-morrow morning for Timaru.

Tho small r-teamer Purau will no*. leave for Timaru until Saturday. Tho Wootton is loading case oil ex Hie barque Marie, and is expected to sail this afternoon for Timaru.
