EMPIRE DAY.
In many schools to-day Kipling's "Recessional" was sung, and his new poem, "The Dead King" was read. (Received May ,25th, 10.20 p.m.) LONDON, May 20. Empire Day was celebrated quietly. Addresses at the schools were the leading feature. Lord Roberts and many others watched the Imperial Cadets competitors for the Earl of Meath's trophy on th_ Stock Exchange Rifle Club range at Alldgate. A holiday was observed throughout Canada. A monument to South African heroes was unveiled at Toronto.
A monument to Queen Victoria was unveiled at Gibraltar.
