SELWYN COUNTY COUNCIL.

A meeting of the Solwyn County Council was held yesterday, when there were present—Messrs G. Witty, M.'l*. (chairman), R. Heatoii Rhodes, M.J.*., G. Scott, J. Storry, J- Wolfe. G. Bedford, J. Henderson, T. D. Boag, D. McMillan, and K. Wilson. The Council adjourned for ten minutes as a mark of respect to the meinorv of the late King, and it was decided, that a motion of condolence be forwarded to the Prime Minister. The Finance Committee's report recommended that the Council levy a separate rato of 3-64(1 in the £ in tho Rakaia road district, to pay the district/ s share of the cost of maintaining the Rakaia bridge; that in lieu of collecting the special rate in tho Coalgate district for the year 1910-11, a separate rate of Jd in tho £ bo levied for tho purpose of maintaining the water races, including payment of interest and sinking fund; that notice be given that proceedings will be taken after 21 days to recover all. unpaid accounts; that owing to the area of the county having been considerably reduced by the severance of that part of the county most interested and benefited by the park, the annual grant to the Christchurch Domains Board be reduced to £50, also that the sum of £10 do granted to the West Melton Domain Board and £o to the Templeton Domain Board; that the £I_o applied for by the Templeton Road Board be granted. The balance-sheet submitted by the Committee set forth the amounts allocated to the various districts, and the receipts, payments. and balances. The genera! expenditure was £5S!)1 7s od, and the general revenue £5255 15s Gd, debit £(535 lis lid. The report was adopted. The motion previously passed by the Council, providing for grants to schools in tho country at which technical education is given, was rescinded, on the motion of Mr McMillan, who intimated that at th« next meeting he intended bringing forward a motion providing for grants not only to schools where technical education was imparted, but also to those schools teaching agriculture It was decided that Od per dozen be raid for birds* heads from June to September inclusive. The sum of £10 was granted to the Prebbleton Domain Board.
