Leo.' second favourite for the AiK'kland Steeplechase, while schooling at Ellerslic yesterday morning, fell heavily, and could not rise. Ho will probably have to be destroyed. There- will be racing to-day at Oamant and Takonuna. Tikitore secured for Mr H. A. Knight yesterday his second Oamaru Cup, his previous victory having been gained by Lapland in 1907. In Mr Knight's absence the handsome trophy attached to the raco was handed to II is trainer, D. Jtoberts. Apart from Tikitere, Mr Knight's other representatives were in good form, as Shindy ran a dead heat with Seagar in the Waiareka Handicap, and Fisticuff was second in the Tokarahi Welter.

Oblong, the winner of the Trial Plate at Oaniaru yesterday, paid a sensational dividend of well ov£r half a century, there being only £0 invested on her in tho machine.

The racing at Oamani yesterday was extremely interesting throughout, and with good fields contesting the majority of tho events, tho totalisator investments showed a marked improvement on last year's figures. Leo was withdrawn from all engagements at the Auckland Racing Club's Winter Meeting at 2.55 p.m. yesterday. Out London cprresTKjjrdent writes , ;—7, During the sale at the Park Paddocks, JN'eivmarket, a racehorso was bought which will shortly be shinped to Now Zealand. Mr Allison, the purchaser, gave 500 Epiineas for Ahab (uy Cylleno out of Stream of Gold, by St. Angelo). When the late Edivin Couch trained this horse for Mr Byrne, great expectations were formed regarding his prospects, but they were not fulfilled. Whatever his abilities, Ahab can scarcely bo described as a handsome horse, and he is quite unlike Cylleno iv appearance.
