DUNEDIN, May 21. Never, even on a Sunday, has Duncdin presented so subdued an appearance as it did yesterday, after the public and military had fifed into their respective churches. The-re was a funereal etillness over everything, and the significance of the occasion -was only augmented by the inert, motionless tramcars, which for twenty minutes stood at their various stopping places. A pall overhung the city as it would over the bier of our departed monarch, and for the nonce all was stilled. Expectant crowds stood at the street corners, but the predominating factor was silence, and where that was not observed, in its fullness, tones were Rubdued, thue emphasising the spirit of mourning which permeated the populace.
