COMET PANIC.

(Received May 20th. 12.K> a.m.) NEW YORK, May 19. The comet is monopolising the attention of American newspapers. Balls, receptions and breakfast parties have been arranged to be held on the roofs in New York. The negroes in the Southern States aro suffering from comet panic. They are suspending work and devoting their timo to prayer meetings ; many are halfcrazed and are hiding in cellars. Insurance agents are reaping a rich harvest. Professor Barnard, of the Yerkes Observatory, reports that tho tail is brighter than any portion of the Milky Way, and that it extends for 107 degrees.
