Exchange Buildings, WORCESTER STKEET, Christchurch C 5012 ARBITRATION COURT. -*» JUDGMENT OX APPEAL. ■Mr Justice .Sim, President of the Arbitration 'Court. yesterday gave judgment on the appeal of Skelton and Frostick, Ltd., against the decision of the Stipendiary Magistrate that tho appellants were compelled, under subsections D and E of Clause 14 of the award controlling the conditions of labour in the hoot manufacturing trade, to pay unindentured female apprentices for the .Show Day holiday. His Honour, in giving judgment, said that although the employees in question were not indentured, and were not engaged for any specified period, and although they might be discharged at twenty-four hours' notice, they were apprentices under Clause 14 of the award. The question he had to determine was whether they came within the provisions of F,ub-sections D and E of that clause. It was quite clear to his mind that the sub-sections did apply to these employees, and that they were entitled to any benefits which those subsections might imply. The appeal would be dismissed. £5 5s costs being allowed. At tho hearing of the appeal case Mr Harper appeared for the appellants and Mr Stringer, K.C., for the Labour Department.
