Ho intended to swim out to bring in his boat, which was moored at; some distance from the wharf. Mcßeddie and Acland were summoned. The patient was still in a critical condition on Saturday. On Saturday Mr F. Smith, of Swannauoa, whilst removing a coupling pin of a traction engine, got his fingers badly crushed through the engine moving. On -Saturday afternoon a young lady hockey player was. riding a pony m Hagley Park, near the Armagh street bridge, when the animal bolted. The young lady was thrown off, and narrowly escaped serious . injury, but fortunately the pony's feet did tot strike her as it jnmpsd over her. She escaped with a shaking and a cut «m the hand. The pony struck the iron gate at the entrance, and broke off oao of the he_vy posts supporting the gate, close to the ground. Some boy scouts who were near picked .hd _he gate and placed it against tho "oth »r gate. The pony, which cut its nose in the collision, bolted along the avenue, but xvas caught before "it had got far. The young lady soon eoovered sufficiently to resume her hockey playing.
