HOW THE CAPTURE WAS . EFFECTED.
(special to "the press.") PALMERSTON NORTH, April 17. Powelka's hiding-place was an ideal one for his purpose, for he was ensconced in the hay-loft, right under the roof down against the wall, with hay piled un all round and above him, so that it" must have been next to impossible to have dislodged him if he had his wits about him. Fortunately for all concerned, he was caught in a drunken sleep, with a revolver in one hand and a bottle of stout in j.lie other. Messrs Scott and Currie thiiu it nrobable that Powelka had been in the* shed for the last two or three days. as Mr Currie has not been in that part of the loft for a week or more. :nd Mr Scott's dogs w?re heard barking furiously a night or two back. The people of Palmerston and district «re experiencing a great sense of relief at the cs:apee being once more in sj.fc custody.
