SYDNEY, April 15. Tho Sydney Hospital Bmallpox case is very mild, and there is littlo risk of infection. - CARGO BROACHING. The Magistrate, in sentencing a wharf labourer to three months' imprisonment for broaching cargo, said offences of the sort .were becoming so common, that tho time for leniency had passed. SINGULAR FATALITY. A remarkable accident occurred at the Abcrmain Colliery, a miner being choked through a travelling rope getting round his neck. A BY-ELECTION. The State by-election for Queanboyan, where the late member resigned in order to contest a Federal seat, resulted in the return of Mr Cusack (Labour). DESTRUCTIVE FIRE. • MELBOURNE, April 15. Brewer's timber yard at Clifton Hill, covering half an acre, together with the mills and valuable machinery, were destroyed by fire. The damage is estimated at £20,000. A BOY'S CRIME. The Flowerdale State School was burned down, and a boy of 14 confessed to having set fire to the building to avoid having to attend school. SCULLING, (Received April 17th, 5 ip.m.) SYDNEY, April 17. W. Fogwoll defeated S. Pearoe by a length and a quarter in a sculling match for £50 a side.
