SCHOOL COMMITTEES.

At the monthly meeting of the St. J Albans School Committee, the hea'lraaster reported an -average attendance for; theY quarter of J A TCqnest from the Fair Committee-to ,;close +he I school on Tuesday for the was granted. A hearty vote of thanks was passed to the chairman. (Mr F. i/ucaa), secretary (Mr F. Cole), and treasurer (Mr A. H. Kobfas) for their services during the year. At the final meeting of the West Christchurch District High -School Committee, the chairman mentioned the death of Miss Grant, and it was resolved to forward to her relatives a letter of condolence, and to express the. great .regret of the committee ct her decease. The average attendance for "the last quarter at the primary school -was 625, and in the secondary department 184, total 812—-an increase on the corresponding quarter of. last year of 25. The- committee approved of the action of the chairman in writing to the Board pointing out the impossibility of meeting current liabilities ■without the grant of extra incidentals which had been given for "he last few years and was now cut off. At the mooting of the Woolston School Committee a letter was received from the Education Board, stating that owing to not having sufficient funds the Board could not erect the two new rooms at present which were promised some time ago. The headmaster reported that the roll number was 553 and. the average attendance 503. Hearty votes of thanks were .passed to Mr Laurenson for his lecture in aid of the school tennis court, and to all tho donors of prizes for the annual swimming sporta. The monthly meeting of the Burwood School Committee wes held on Tuesday evening; there was a f nil attendance of members. Tho "headmaster reported the attendance to- be etill on the increase, the number on roll be m<: 133. Correspondence from the Education Board was received, drawing the attention of the committee to the of boundary between Linwood North and Bun wood schools. The two shelter sheds arranged for are now almost completed, and will prove very valuable to the children in cold weather.
