My own boys go to *y we £ school, and it is simply, absurd the amount of work they brmg home. It just means that the parents have to practically do it for them, the.result being, that at the end of the term they Sow nothing. The master or mistress should realise that children, say until the age of about twelve, arc at the stage when they want to b«*w; and they need all the recreaUon .they can possibly get, instead of coming home from school to sit down straight away t,- lessons again, wiuch takes them two or three hours to master. \Vhy not give them a little, and expect it to be aone well and thoroughly, insteadlot gjving them page upon page of anting and learning, consequently only getting it 'ess than half done? I hope, Mr Editor, that this matter will not be allowed to drop, and that soon we may B ee a much-needed change as regards home lessons.—Yours, etc., „,

OF " THE PRESS " Sir, —I 'agree with much that "Puzzled" says in regard to the tremendous anount "of homo work the children have to do. but do not think the poor Government can help us much in the case of private schools. The best way would be for several parents to make a pretest to the principal of tho school. I have heard many complaints from parents, and in my own case I spend about two hours every evening teaching my boy his lessons. He is but 9 years old. and cannot read well enough to learn the lessons that are set for him — on* evening, besides Scripture, Latin, history, and sums, he had to learn the names of towns, mountains, and rivers ot Asia, some of which not even my husband could pronounce.—Yours, etc., MRS PUZZLED.
