SWIMMING.
A number of ewimming events weTe got off at the Kaiapoi Baths on Wednesday afternoon, for prize- given by Mr Isaac Wilson to bo competed for by pupils of the borough school. A programme was arranged and carried out under the direction of Mr W. D. Bean, headmaster. The result* were:—Boys' BOjda—J. Purdie 1, J. Heslop 2. 25yds— -C. Joslen 1, D. Murray 2. Girls, 25yds—Ireaa Hoskin 1, A. Trestrail 2, Hilda Parnham 3. Tub Race—F. Puddlo 1. J. Heslop 2, L. Parnham 3. Diving for plates—J. Purdie. Cheers were subsequently given for the donor of the prizes.
The annual schoolboys' life-saving competition for the Sir John Hall Shield will be held this afternoon at- the Sydenham Baths. Teams have been entered from the Richmond, Sydenham, Waltham, Lyttelton, and West Christchurch Schools. The interest token by the boya in the event this year is much keener than lost year, and a good competition may be looked, for. The final distance (100yd_) of the schoolboy championship will be swum at th« Opawa Baths on Saturday afternoon next.
The .Richmond Amateur Swimming Club will hold _ club carnival at the hatha on Saturday next, when the following programme of races will be held: 100 yds Breast Stroke,- 50yds Handicap, 25yds Do__ 100 yds Kelay Kace, and 50yds Junior Han'Heap Larso entries have been received for all events.
