Mr McWILLIAMS'S MISSION.
Mr J. McWilliams, the emissary of the Newcastle (N.S.W.) miners, returned on Friday evening from the West Coast, after having visited the coalmining centres in the vicinity of Greymouth and Westport. He stated that ho can see a splendid future in front of New Zealand, if only from tho point of view of its coal trade. He reports having received unexpected financial support: before ho arrived on tho Coast thc miners were levying on themselves at iherate of ono shilling per man, but aft»r hearing Mr McWilhams's stateme it of the state of affairs, they decidvi to levy on themselves to the extent of 5 per cent, of their earnings. In .ddition, they pnt Mr McWilliams tn possession of the wherewithal to enable him to go from place to place.
