Lord Plunket will pay a farewell visit to Nelson from the 19th to the 23rd inst* leaving Wellington on the 14lh, and 'cabins at Motueka and Ckillingt_cod. The Hon. G. Fowlds visited the Sunnysido Mental Hospital and tbe Burnham India-trial School on Saturday. The Minister visits Rangiora this morning, returning to the city by tbe midday train. This afternoon he will receive a deputation, and will be engaged with Departmental business. He" leaves for Wellington by this evening's steamer.

The Hon. T. Mackenzie arrived m Grcvmouth on Saturday night, and visits the Rotomana Settlement to-day. The Minister will be entertained at a banquet on Thuisday evening, after which he- spends a week at South Westland. The Hon. J. His Honour Mr Justice Sim returned to Christchurch from Timaru on Saturday, upon the conclusion of the Supreme Court sittings at that centre. Captain Colin McDonald, assistant marine superintendent of the Union Steam Ship Company, returned from Wellington by the Maori on Saturday morning, and" left in the afternoon by the Mokoia for Dunedin.

Captain J. A. H. Marciel, Superintendent of Mercantile Marine at Lyttelton, accompanied by Miss Marciel, returned by the Maori on Saturday morning from a holiday visit to Auckland and Rotorua.

Mr C. J. Reakes, Director of Live Stock and Meat Division, arrived in town yesterday. Mr C. W. Garrard, Inspector of Schools for tho Auckland district, armed in Christchurch on Saturday for a short holiday. Next week he goes to Wellington to attend the Conference of School Inspectors. Among those visiting the Dominion at present are General Sir J. Dorward, a retired army officer, who is making a tour of New Zealand, and Sir George Davis and Lady Davis, of Tasmania, who are proceeding to Rotorua. Mr J. H. McAlister, formerly of the Marine Department, and subsequently private secretary to the Hon. A. T. Ngata, has been appointed private secretary to the Hon. R. McKenzie (Minister of Public Works and Mines), vice Mr C. H. Matthews, who becomes chief clerk of the Police Department. Mr F. H. Hamlin, late thief claims clerk for the Union Company at Wellington, lias been appointed as chief passenger clerk at Christchurch, in succession to Mr S. Wilson, who is now sub-manager at Lyttelton. Mr and Mrs Hamlin arrived from Wellington by tl-e Maori on Saturday morning. On the eve of his departure for Christchurch, Mr Harry F. Norman, chief inspector of public works at Dunedin, was the recipient of a valedictory presentation in the shape of a silvermounted walking stink and a purse of sovereigns for Mrs Norman on Friday last. Mr C. H. Winny has been gazetted a member of rhe Avon Licensing Committee in the place of the late Mr E. H. Little. Mrs J. Cracroft Wilson intends leaving on a visit to England next week. The East Christchurch School Committee have recommended the following pupil teachers for appointment to fill the vacancies at the schools under their charge:—Messrs George S. Lambde and James J. Walsh, Misses Nora Archey, Evangeline Seymour, Emmie Moyna, Elizabeth E. Baker, and (if required) Dorothy Walker.
