POLITICAL NOTES.

(SPECIAL TO "THB PRESS.") WELLINGTON, December 22. JOTTINGS. In regard to the case of Mr S. C. Farr, of Christchurch, Sir Joseph. Ward stated that he would look into it. He was inclined to think that if the whole ot the facts had been placed before the magistrate, the entire pension would not" have been refused. The matter would bo carefully considered by the Government. In reply to a question by Mr Forbes regarding the construction of an extension' of the railway from Culverden to Waiau township, the Minister for Works said that while tbe railway referred' to by the honourable gentleman would no doubt be of considerable importance to the distriot through which it would pass, he regretted that tbe Government could not make any further addition to its railway construction policy this year, as set forth in the Public Works Statement. Sir William Steward asked the Minister of Lands when he proposed to cause to be put down a trial bore or bores for water on the Waikakahi Estate at one or more of the points indicated by the Rev. Mr Mason, the water-finder, as the most suitable for the purpose. A vote of £50 was passed for this purpose on last year's estimates. Tho Minister replied as follows: —As soc-n as the appropriations for the current year have been passed, the money in question will be available for expenditure. In tho meantime the Commissioner of Crown Lands, Christchurch, has been instructed to call for tenders for sinking a trial bore at one of tho points indicated by Mr Mason.
