CHRISTCHURCH DISTRICT NURSING ASSOCIATION.

THE FINANCIAL POSITION

A meeting of the committeo of the Chri^c*.'_■<*"._ I>. trict Nursing Association hold yesterday, was attended by Archdeacon Averill (chairman), the R e v. J- Mackenzie. Messrs Joseph Slater, and W. C. Bean (hon. secretary and treasurer). Mr C. E. Godfrey ! sent an apology. Re; -..rung on the financial position of ■ the Association, tho ..Tretary and trea- . urer isaid that the balance to credit at present was £13 4s Id. The appeal i:r. Ide through the newspapers resulted in the receipt of £35. He had, fur--1 .her. sent out eighteen circulars to _'hr:&tchurcb people that he thought uouk'. lie inclined to give sMnethmg, and this plan had produced £8 6s, or a local of i-4'i 6s. The reason the financial: position was not .so satisfactory as in the .>ast was that they were paying more to their nurses, and, whilst their expenditure had increased, their revenue had decrea :ed. He had written to Mr J. D. Holl in connection with the bequest of the late Sir John Hall cf £30.000 for charities, and his letter was referred to Mr H. Cotterill, one of the executors, who had noted on it that the funds provided for charity under Sir John Hall's will were used only in assisting private cases brought under the notice of tho executors. fie had als o written to Mr Geo. T. Booth, the other executor, who had replied to similar effect, and who added that the resources of tho executors were not equal to the demands made on them. With the amount available (£l3 14s Id), Mr Bean was satisfied that he would be able to keep matters going till tho end of the present month; to meet expenditure after that date he suggested that arrangements should be made for temporary accommodation from the hank. The Rev. Mr Mackenzie suggested that probably further assistance would he given by the Hyman Marks Trust. Mr Bean said he would approach the trustees. He mentioned, in connection with the investment of bequests made to the Association, that the desirableness cf the Association being registered under the Unclassified Societies Act should be considered' by the annual meeting in April. The treasurer was authorised to arrange with the bank for a temporary overdraft, not to exceed £50. It was_ decided to write, thanking Nurse White for her efficient services during Nurse Maude's absence. The secretary -was instructed to arrange that the annual meeting of the Association should be one to which the public would "be invited, and at which addresses dealing with the work of the Association would be given.
