THRESHING MILLS DISPUTE.

THE UNION'S DEMANDS

Notice of a dispute between the Canterbury Agricultural Pastoral Labourers' Union end the North Canterbury threshing mill owners has been filed. The demands of the union, briefly, are that the hours shall be left to the employees and the employers' representatives, the worker in no case to bo employed by lamplight or other artificial light; the number of men to be employed at each mill when working to l>9 driver, feeder, three stackmen, three bagmen, one strawman, one waterman, and in camp one ccok; no boys under 18 to be employed; the waterman to attend to tho horses, and in all cases where the straw is stacked, two extra men to be employed; in all oases in North Canterbury, threshing from the steok to bo suspended, and all grain to be E/tacked; the feeder to be paid Is 6d per hour and found, cook £2 10b jper week and found , , and all other workers (except the driver) Is 3d per hour and found j preference to be given to unionists ;no sack to contain more than 2001b; no work to be done by piecework or contract. The assessors nominated by the union are Walter Bennett (St. Arbans), Robert Borland (Woodend), and A. Patemon (Linwood). About 130 millowners will be cited , . The date of the hearing has not yet been fixed by the Conciliation Commissioner, but it will probably come on Zebme time in February.
