VOLUNTEER NOTES.
The announcement by Sir Joseph. Ward that he proposed to alter Clause 26 of the Internal Defence Bill to allow of eoch corps retaining its assets and liabilities has been received with pleasure by most of the Christchurch Volunteer corps. With but few exceptions the Christchurch corps will have credit balances at the close of the present volunteer year, and the seizing of these to pay off the liabilities of the thriftless ones would have been a serious injustice. The second annual meeting of the Waimate Rifle Association was Anniversary Day, when there attendance of fifty-two. ' There will be a large attendance of Canterbury' marksmen at Trentham in March next-, and several of the younger shots" intendi to try their hands against the cracks. Colonel Collins made a statement at the subalterns' dinner in Wellington last week which is of great interest to volunteers all over the Dominion. He said thero was some misunderstanding as to the retiring age of the territorials. The thirty years of ago limit referred to the men, but not to officers, noncommissioned officers, and specialists. As Colonel Collins does not make tlicse statements without authority, it is pretty safe to say this will be incorporated in the Act or the regulations.
