LIEDERTAFEL.

The Herren Abend given by the Christchurch Liedertafel last night .attracted a very large attendance. In tho' absence of the hon. conductor, Mr Alfred Bunz discharged the duties Of the office, and Dr. T. Leslie Crooke acted as accompanist. The part songs, which were as usual the strong features of the programme, comprised "The Frontier Line" (Reissiger), In the Moonlight" (F. Otto), "Beleagured" (Sullivan), "Far From Mc" (Engelsberg), "When Evening's Twilight" (Hatton). "Joy Waltz," built upon ine of Strauss's well-known compositions, and a production by Dudley Buck described as a "Vocal Combat," in, which 'the tenors and male altos waged n musical war with the heavier voices, the former usine as ammunition ;he well-known air-"When Other Lips," the latter flinging into the fight the equal-, ly well-known song "Rocked in the Cradle of the Deep." Dr. Crook© contributed a pianoforte solo, ; a rondo ly Weber, and'was encored. The everpopular "Off to Philadelphia" was given by Mr R. A.;"Beveridge, who in resnonse to' an insistent recall sang "Th© Little Irish Girl": and other successful items were "Forcing the Anchor," by Mr S. Fawker; "The Rea»ital," Mr R. D. Vincent; and "Bianca" (Mattei), by Mr H.Schwartz.
