THE LOAN EXHIBITION.

The Loan Exhibition which was opened by the President of the Art Society," Mr J- Jamieson, last evening, takes the place oi the annual sketch Exhibition of tlie Society which has been iield in former years. The lotal numoer 01 exhibits is _31. The following ladies and gentlemen nave assisted to make the i'jxlu.ition a success by generously ieudmg pictures:—Mrs Dampier Crcssley, .who lias lent a very fine collection, sends eignt pictures, including a Muriilo, Turner, Raeburn, \ andyk, Laudseer, Reynolds, and two the, names of tlie painters ot which are lost in antiqujty. ; \_ rs j. Drydeii Hall sends eight, including pictures by the following artists:—Kennedy, Hunt, and \ an der Velden, the remainder being byartists whose names are unknown. Mrs Sunley, three pictures by Corregio, Pritchard, and* Thomas Earle. Mrs Bloxam has lent an example of Handel Gear's work. Mrs Joseph Palmer has lent two, a splendid oil-painting by D. Farquharson which was in the British Art Court of the International Exhibition, and an old water-colour by Stephanoff. Mrs Prins lends an admirable example of Ettv's 'brushwork, and a Van def Velden in black and white. Mrs R. D. Thomas lends six pictures, including some first-class water-colours. Mrs S. A. Jarvis lends coo picture, a capital exemoliiication of tho work of G. F. Watts? Airs Vincent sends two excellent examples of Spencer Vincent, and Mrs McLeuchan sends two pictures by" W. K. Sprott winch will be regarded with interest by all young artists. Mrs Alfred Evans sends ten pictures, including examples cf Nerli, Sam Bough, Sam Prout, Paikyn, Philip, Fearon, and others. The president, Mr James Jamieson, .who has! shown keen interest in the project, takes the pride of place in number, sending no fewer than fifty-five. In this collection are included tine picture, by Van der Velden, Faed, Tom Lloyd, Kilburn, Hely Smith, R. Arming Bell, McWhirter, Patrick Donnie, E. Hayes (the only example of the Irish Academy), Bouden, Gouldsmith, D. Roberts, Frank Brangwyn, D. Cox, A. Fraser, Clayton Adams, Breakspeare, Sir A. W. Callcott, Claude Hayes, G. Houston, Ernest Partou, H. G. Hyne, Gertrude Hammond, Colin Hunter (the only example of the artist here), Frank Craii;, Yeend King, and a splendid example of the French school by W. Wylde. Mr A. R. Bloxam sends some excellent pictures, including several by Sir Thos. Lawrence, and also pictures by Evans, Harlowe, Howell, and Lane (pupils of Sir T. Lawrence). Mr Russell sends a number, including pictures by Docharty. Aikman, and Sir Jas. Guthrie, President Royal Scottish Academy. Mr W. Recce sends five, including a fine Van der Velden, and excellent examples of the work of Valentine T. Garland, Boot, and Frank Craig. Mr R. Beaton Rhodes, M.P., sends nine pictures, which include works by Sir J. Linton, J. J. Shannon, McLachlan, Van der Velden. Mrs Allingham, and John Gibb. Mr Waymouth has six pictures, which include works by Mrs Stanhope Forbes, Rhodes, Tyke, James Peel, and some of the Dutch school. Mr James Hay has two admirable pictures by Wm. Kennedy and David Muirhead, and Mr Robt. Hay sends a gocd examine of Wm. Rainey. The Hon. E. C. J. Stevens has eleven pictures, including works by Van der Velden, Hoyte, Douglas Almond, David Murray, Cattermole, Frank Walton, E. M. Patterson, Reginald Barrett, John Gibb, Rowbotham, and an oil after Constable. Harman's Trust sends three, including representative pictures by Bennington, J. Goy. and Henry Moore. Mr T. Cowlishaw has three pictures, including examples of the work of A. K. Brown, Claude Hayes, and a unknown artist. Mr R. C. Bishop sends four pictures, including works by Thos. Cane, H. Hugh Stanton, R.A.. and Prescott Davis. Mr P L. Hallenstein has a McWhirter, one by Tom Robertson, and one Caffieri. Mr McGrepor Wright sends nine pictures, including examples nf the work of Sid. Lontr. J. M." Nairn. Julian Ashfon, and others. Mr W. EL Clark has which include representative works* of R. H. Wright, F. W. Tristran Onslow Ford, and E. Gouldsmith. Professor Cook has four pnlerdid pictures by Llewellyn, Dudley Hardy, and Harlev. The other contributors to the excplle»t loan collection comprise Messrs W. H. Finr_reaves. A. Boyle, A: Appleby, T. Restell. Mrs D'Oyley, Dr. Jennings, md Dr. John Guthrie. The Council hnd a large number of >ther pictures offered to them, but nere unable to accept them from want >f room.
