CANTERBURY COLLEGE v. OTAGO UNIVERSITY.

The annual match between Canterbury College end Otago University was commenced at Hagley Park yesterday. A capital -wicket had . been provided, and the Otago captain's action.' in- puttine the opposition in was therefore inexplicable. At any rate the College batsmen niade merry : "with Otago's bowling, -which was not- l>y any means weak, ami they put on about-a hundred runs in the first hour* They slowed down a bit then, but later on the runs again came fast, and when stumpsf were drawn the score was 331 for 6 -wickets. Mulgan played a very fine innings of 128, and he displayed powers that his usual displays in Club cricket would hardly have suggested. His driving was quite first-class, whilst-he did some stylish and forceful cutting. Chrystau also played excellent cricket for 79. his defence and scoring strokes being firetclass. Rutherford,: the Otago representative, was the best of the Otago bowlers. The fielding .was. decidedly good, and Slater Kept wickets capitally. ' Y. 831 A meeting of delegates of the Ashley County Cricket Association was held at Rangiora on Tuesday afternoon. iAr W. E. Barton was appointed selector for the team to' play Ellesmei'e on Anniversary Day. Mr 0. A. Cuff resigned the office of secretary of the Association, and Mr F. Gulliver was elected. The meeting decided to present Mr Cuff with, a cricket bat, to be _suitaWy inscribed, in appreciation of the assistance he had given to cricket in' the district. A match between' the Stock Auctioneers and Dealers will take place at Hagley Park on Saturday, commencing at 2 p.m.. The auctioneers -team will be Austin, W. W. Morton. G. Matnews, R. Ridley, H.
