The possibilities of Australia -were little understood at Home, and he had come acnfts Australians who possessed the belief that Englishmen went Home and disparaged Australia, but ho had never heard any supercilious Englishman say anything approaching tie nasty things about Australia that he had heard Australians say against each other. At first he was disposed to be pessimistic about Australia's future, but he had been long enough, here to become optimistic.
