METHVEN.
A successful bazaar in aid of the prize and excursion fund of the public school was held in the Publio Hall on Thursday. Mrs Alexander Orr performed the opening ceremony. The refreshment stall was in charge of Mtsdamcs Mangin, Duff, Butler, Manion, and Briden. A splendid display of fancy sewing, done by the school girls, was presided over by Mrs Knight, assisted by two of tho school pupils, Misses Knight and Cawsey. A plain sewing stall, also provided by the children, was presided over by Mrs Cawsey, assisted by Misses E. Duff and S. McLean. A fruit and loHie stall was in charge of Misses Westbrpoke and Wilson (2), while the Christmas tree and bran tub were managed by three little girls, Ettie Briden, Mary ' Mahood, and Joanie Grainger, superintended by Miss Westbrooke. A feature of the bazaar was an admirable display of wood work, executed by the schoolboys. The three lads in charge, Masters Pierce (2) and G. Anderson, were rewarded for their efforts by sales amounting to £8 lis 2d. The usual shooting and guessing competitions were successfully carried out by Messrs Pierce, Middleton, and Knight, assisted by a number of young ladies. A sale of produce was conducted, and realised good prices, while two sheep, given by Messrs McLean and McDonald, realised, in all, £6 8s 6d. Great credit is due to Mr Gillanders, tho head teacher. Miss Willis, infant mistress, and tho School Committee for tho success of the undertaking, which realised the handsome sum of £35 nett.
