Bates's summery and forecast: — Northerly ana , westerly winds have given way to strong j southerlies on all the western coast, and oyer most parts of the North Island during the early hours, and the weather has generally improved as tho day advanced. The present indications | are for a steepening of the barometric gradients, causing strong westerly winds generally and freshening shortly to a gale south | of Kawhia and Caatlepoint. Tho weathe* will probably be .qually and changeable, particularly on the West Coast. The. rainfall at Amberley for September, according to observations taken by Mr F. G. •' Lewton, totalled 1.88. Rain fell *on eleven days, the heaviest fall taking place on the 7th, when .67in was recorded.
