An old man named James Bryson, better known as "Jimmy the Packer," about 75 years of age, was found dead in his bed at Waikaia this morning. A verdict of death from injuries caused by a gunshot wound self-inflict-ed was returned as the result of an inquest on Maurice Matthews, who was found dead at Brooklyn yesterdey. Deceased had been in ill-health, xmd his wife said she thought he had been dahbling in horse racing and had* suffered losses. DUNEDIN, October 6. A single woman named Margaret Deverey, aged forty-nine years, died suddenly at Carey's Bay, near Port Chalmers, last night of heart failure.
