OPENING OF THE BOATING SEASON.
FINAL ARRANGEMENTS,
A meeting of delegates from the rowing clubs, to mako arrangements for the opening day of the boating season on Wednesday next (Labour Day), was held last evening. Present—Messrs F. D. Kesteven (chairman), H. H. Btrry, L. Corbett, F. W. Dunnage, T. Chambers, and H. Herbert Smith (hon. sec.) The following crews were' drawn for the various events: —Fours, first heat, H. Bliss, A. Woods, L. H. Parsou and T. E. Bowes, against F. Ryan, B. Dallison, L. Corbett and F. McCullough; second heat, H. S. Hobbs, G. Hussey, W. Harrison, and R. B. Burns, against R. E. Fitzer, J. Carmault, T. Langford, and L. Tucker. Double sculls, first heat, S. E. Moore and A. E. Marriott against T. Booth and R- A. Blank; second heat, A. Evans and A. Calloway against C. J. Thornton and H. Hale. It was decided that all crews embark at the Canterbury Rowing Club's sheds immediately after the procession, which will etart at 2.30 p.m. The secretary reperted that arrangements were well in hand, a band having been engaged, and various novel events having been arranged by the different clubs.
