NEW SHAFT FOR THE MARABOA.
The new thrust shaft for thelMararoa, which has juet been forged at Port Chalmers, arrived at Lyttelton yesterday morning by the Ulimaroa, and after being landed was taken aboard by the Mararoa.- The shaft, which was forged by Mesrs ' Stev«nson and Cook, is about. 10 feet in length, and 14 inches in dia-' Meter. , There are on •it seven collars 22 inches in diameter, and the flanges at Either end are uuout 27 inches ~?n diameter. The forging, which weighs three tone, is said to be a very line piece of work. It has been taken down into the engine-room, where it ia being "bedded-down" preparatory to drilling the holes for the* coupling bolts and fitting it to the other shafting. According to present, arrangements the llararoa will go into dock on. Monday morning tc have her hull cleaned and. repainted below the water-line, and it i» intended to bring her out of dock in time to enable her to leave for Wellington on Monday night.
