It was resolved tuat Sir George Clifford be chairiiian for the ensuing year. The Hospital Bourd wrote stating that the proportion of expenditure allocated to the Waipara Itoad Board amounted to £874 6s 9d. Mr A. Earshnian wrote drawing the Board's attention to the bad state of repair of the Hurunui-Bluff road, and asking that the/whole of the rates of the few ratepayers using the road be set aside for the next two or three years and spent in putting the road in good repair. Mr Banks interviewed the Board on the same matter, and asked that the dangerous portion of the Bluff between the formed part of the road and the river be fenced off. The Surveyor, was instructed to report on the matter at the next meeting. Messrs D. D. McFarD. Rutherford, A. Francis, 'i. S. Johnson, W. McFarlane, and others, attended to request the Board to Have an estimate made of the cost of constructing a traffic bridge over the Waipara river, and,to. apply for a commission to be set up to allocate the proportion of cost among the adjacent local bodies, the Waipara Board to be the controlling body. It was thought that in view of the large increase in expenditure for new hospital buildings, and the probability of increased 'taxation on account of the proposed Christchurch Ship Canal scheme, it would be inadvisable that the Board commit itself to any large expenditure at present that was not absolutely necessary. At the same time the Board was prepared to adhere to its offer made on June 1 last year, when the same matter was brought before it by the Kowai Road Board. •■.■'■ ■ ' At the annual meeting of ratepayers there were present:~Sir George Clifford.
