The attention of the- driver was called to the accident, and the lad was picked up and carried to the borne of his parents, where he expired shortly afterwards. Dr. Handcock was telephoned for, and arrived at the house at midday, but the- lad had been dead some time before. An inquest will be held.

Miss Louisa Chant, aged 49 years, a patient in the Wellington Hospital, died this morning after chloroform had been administered to her for the purpose of enabling an operation to be performed. Dr. Hardwick Smith (medi<sai superintendent of the- hospital),, and Drs. Faulko and Foster were present, and did everything in their power to restore animation. Dr. McArthur, district coroner, held an inquest, It was shown that deceased had been in poor health for some time, suffering from appendicitis. ! She was operated on on April Bth. and stood the anaesthetic well. It was then found that the existence of tumours rendered another operation imperative. A young man named Thos. Martin, a tailor, died while being conveyed from the football field to-day.
