A. J. WHITE, LTD.

Rapidly as the last twelve months have passed to most of us, we notice with pride that our local industries have kept pace with the giant strides of time. A visit of inspection to the wellknown firm of A. J. White, Ltd., is a lesson of instruction to most people. This firm is displaying many original and up-to-date schemes of furnishing, both in their windows and showrooms.

We strongly advise visitors to Christchurch during the Industrial Week not to lose the opportunity of visiting this free exhibition of fine furniture.

Ono of ,the advantages offered by Messrs White is that they niako it possible to complete the entire furnishing of the home from ono establishment.

The bedroom furniture is exceptionally interesting this year, especially a gentleman's chest of drawers, designed to enable the fortunate possessor to dross with the rapidity of a quickchange artist. It contains that essential to every well-groomed man, a combined trouser stretcher and presser, capable of keeping at least naif a dozen pairs of trousers in immaculate condition. Oak bedroom as well as other furniture, of which some very fine specimens aro on show, appear to bo as much in favour as ever; in fact, the demand for this very handsome and durable wood seems on the increase, if the enormous sticks of this timber in Messrs White's yard are any criterion. The comfortable and elegant upholstered goods exhibited certainly compare favourably with anything the world produces, hut the "Field" easy chair and settee, also the. "Club" easy, must be tried to be fully appreciated. The wooden bedsteads, of new designs and in various woods, are certainly exceedingly tasteful, and,, combining as they do strength and elegance, bid fair to rival both brass and iron in popularity. Among the numerous handsome sideboards, valued at many hundreds of pounds, we notice tho exceptionally tine workmanship in an oak sideboard of exquisite design. Being of no pronounced style, it is eminently suitable lor people who aro To-furnishing and who are retaining portion of their original furniture. Mantelpieces and overmantels on show are of exceedingly good design and sound construction; and the colonial well-fires, which are cheaper than the imported ones, have, without doubt, the advantage of tho customer being able to choose the exact tilo to blend with tho room without waiting for somo time to have tho "right thing" imported.
