THE VOLUNTEERS.

"W'eok-end manoeuvres will take place on Saturday and Sunday next, in the vicinity of Tcmnleton. The following is the General Idea:—A Red detachment of all arms is operating in the %'icinity of Hornby. On the ex-ening of the 20th an invading column (Blue), advancing from West Melton, with the intention of seisins Hornby, finds that it is blocki-d by the Red detachment, and that, in ordeT to attain its object, it must attack. The following is the Special Idea:— The Red Force (Major Richardson " in command) is eucamiwd in the Templeton Domain, on the Pound road. Tho Blue Force (Major Stewart in command) is encamped at Witty's farm. All ground east of Pound road and Marsh's road is out of bounds. Operations will commence, at 7 a.m. on tho 21st inst., and last till 1 p.m. The Red Force must not have any troops outside the Domain before 7 a.m., nor nn:st the Blue Force leave camp before that hour. Major D. M. Stewart, commanding the Blue Force, has issued tho followin re orders:— (1) Week-end Camp.—A week-end camp of Christohurch Garrison Corps will bo luM at Ter.ipletoji on &aturcay, March ->oth. 1009. at which you are particularly requested to uttend. (2) Parade.—Fall in at tho Barracks at 3 p.m. Marching order, with greatcoats rolled. Dismounted troops will train out. (3) Baggage.—Baggage must bo at the Barracks before 2.30 p.m. .Each man requires blankete, waterproof sheet, arid eating utensils. Officers and X.C.O.'s, field-glasses and writing meterial. (4) Return.—Troops will arrivo at Christchurch about 3.30 on the 21st. (5) Thursday Men.—Men who cannot get out on Saturday afternoon will catch tho Ricca:>on tram, leaving the Square at seven minutes past ten, and will be met at conch corner by a waggon. They can either bring their baggage or send it out in the afternoon. Any men who are sporting enough to do this, will notify their O.CI company, so that arrangements can be made.

A ceremonial parade will be held to-night, when tho following corps will take part:—LytteJton Division R.N.Z.A., Canterbury Division G.A. Volunteers, E Battery, No. 1 Company New Zealand Engineers, Canterbury Mounted Rifles, Ist Battalion North Canterbury Infantry, 2nd Battalion North Canterbury Infantry, Chr/stchurch Cycle Gorpe, No. 3 Company Field Ambulance, Canterbury Scouts Reserve Corps, Lyttelton Naval Cadets, Queen's Cndets, Garrison Band, and Lyttelton Marino Band. Tho troops will leave the Barracks at 8 p.m., and will march through tho city.

ASHBURTON RIFLES. The annual general meeting of the Ashburton Rifles Volunteers was held on Tuesday evening, Cantaan A. J. Childs presiding. ThY annual report and balance-sheet, which were adopted, showed that the year had been a most satisfactory one, from all points of view. The Shooting Committee appointed last year was re-elected, with Private Niall and Corporals Clayton and Andrews added. Privates Nicholl, Brown, Niall and Hyde were elected a Social Committee, and last year's Finance Committee was reflected.
