TELEPHONE 1838 .. .. In introducing the now world-famous London " Taxi Cab" to Christchurch, we feel that we have supplied a public want. It means that we have brought the price of motoring within reach of the general public, and everyone may now hire a ""Taxi" for long or short distances, at any time of the day or night. Below we give a brief description of the Cab : — The " Taxi Cab " is built by Renault Freres, and is recognised as the finest motor vehicle in the world. The body is of the Landau type, with tho rear portion of the hood collapsible, leaving in front two sliding windows which makes an effective wind screen. For all ordinary purposes, however, the " Taxi " is run as a covered Landau. Operated from one of the road wheels is the Taximeter, the instrument which denotes the fare, according to the elista-.ice travelled, the fare being in view of both passenger and driver. Charge is made during the time the " Taxi " is kept waiting, but of course at a much less rate than when running. This charge is likewise shown by the Taximeter, I and at the completion of a journey, the passenger pays only the faro as indicated by the meter. An impression exists that the " Taxis " can only be used.on short distances, we wish to point out that the Cabs, like Cars, can travel anywhere, and we undertake trips to Akaroa, Hanmer, Timaru, Dunedin, in fact anywhere. . The public will find the Cabs delightfully easy and quiet to ride in, with no" possibility of soiled clothes as in open cars, whilej the "charges are no more than with the horse-drawn vehicle.
