TO THE EDITOR OF "THE PRESS." Sir,—Liooking at this question from a practical standpoint, a few remarks may not bo out of place. Tias Mr Anderson, after revelling in the enjoyment of the gurgling streams, twittering biixKs in tlieir leafy bowers, etc., etc., -which he so poetically pourtrays in this morning's isaue of your valuable paper, •ever considered what the. effect would be upon his assthetic temperament to be compelled to use broad three days old on Monday morning? Sow, this is a plain statement of fact. Bakers, if forced to keep Saturday half-holiday, could not possibly manufacture and deliver bread to all customers on Saturday, consequently a great many of these would have to put up -with this commodity necessarily baked on Friday. I can im.agine your correspondent witnessing the football heroics, maybe ta.king part in them on Saturdays, enjoying the rural 6cenery of our beautiful suburbs, with their soul-inspiring concomitants all day Sunday, if ho be er> inclined ; but I dare not venture to think what way he may be induced to give vent to his poetic feelings when in midsummer tho staff of life will be placed before him three days old. Thursday half-holiday has, so far, proved a very reasonable mid-week relaxation, entailing no special hardship upon any section of the community, consequently it would be the height of folly to change it for that we know not of. The reasons adduced by Mr And-erson in favour of sports are not, in my opinion, such ns should emanate from one having the welfare of his adopted country at hoart. .Sport.'; are necessary to counteract the drudgery of everyday life, but to mnke them a "lending lins," as your correspondent appears to, would be placing oursolves in the same category with that groat ompiro, tho ancient Uomans, before its decline and fa!!.—Yours, etc.. A. HOPE BLAKE. March loth.

TO THE EDITOR OF "THE PRESS." '>'•■, —Mr Ronald S. Bndger, etc., etc., appeals on this subject in your issue of ■Saturday to pnrsojis "in tho possession of their t-ov-on scares." 1>00.3. ho know any such? If he can show us tlieni, then perha.us tho rest of his letter ivill carry some weight.—Yours, etc., FIVE SENSES.
