OFFICIAL OPENING.

GORE, -March 3. To-day t'he Hon. J. A. Millar opened the Gore-Waikaka railway in the presence of a largo number of poopJe. From McNab junction the- distance traversed by tho line is thirteen mdJcs, a.nd tho total cost will be about C 70.000, of which £00,000 was raised, uy debentures. The line passes through good agricultural land, closely settled, with gold dredging claims all along the route. Whilst lignite is found and worked more or" loss all over the district. In. connection with the opening the residents of Waikaka entertained Mr W. Fraser, M.P., for Wakatipu to a banquet in recognition of his strenuous advocacy of the project. Tho presentation of a purse of sovereigns to Mr Fraser was also made.
