At a special meeting of the Akaroa Borough Council on 'Wednesday, Thursday was selected as the day for tho statutory half-holiday. The"ordinary meoting of tho Council was then field, Messrs Geo. Armstrong (Mayor), and Crs. Kerridgo, Checkley, -Newton. C. Armstrong, Ponlington, Homing, Hayward, Mottram, and Lewitt being present. A letter was received from several ratepayers, requesting that Aubrey street bo chipped. It was resolved that tho work could not bo done at present. A notice of motion to rescind tho leasing of tho Council's reservo at Ashburton for seven years was carried, it having been found "advisable to lease the reserve for fourteen years. After consideration of tenders for the lease of the Recreation Ground at Akaroa, that of Mr Charles Narbey was accepted, at £2 10s per annum. The Baths Committeo recommended that the offer of Messrs Beswick and Harris, solicitors, of a loan at 5 per cent, bo accepted, and that the Council pay 2J per cent, per annum to tho Publio Trustee to redeem the loan. Tho report was adopted. Tho attention of the Council was drawn to the waste of water on tho part of those having extraordinary supplies, and it was resolved to procure quotations for 20 meters of 4 inch service. Accounts for £220 7s Id were passed.
