A deputation from the Society for Promoting the Health of Women and rri-iMyon. consisting of Mesdames Pvno, Sandstein, and Pratt, waited on 'the Men. (i. Kowlds yesterday in reference to a Government subsidy in aid of the society's work. Mrs Pvne stated that it would take about £350 to meet all their engagements for the year, and although they had a larger membership the ._ib_cri_-tion_ were in smaller sums. They had two Plnnket Nurses at work visiting some ninctvtwooases. The Minister pointed out that the matter was now under the control of the Hon. Mr Buddo, who had taken over charge of the Department of Public Health. Last year a vote was taken for the Health Department for the purpose of subsidising similar societies in the four centres, £400 bei„g then available. Since that time societies had sprung np in the smaller centres, and it had been determined to appropriate, say, £500, and t__y subsidies according to the amount *of subscriptions received by each soeietv—the -amo as was done in the case of "public libraries.
