All aboard were saved. There were 250 finst-closs passengers, 211 steerage passengers, and 300 crew aboard tho Republic, which was starting on a winter excursion to tho Mediterranean. The cargo included 500 tons of supplies for the American Fleet, to replace the goods sent to Messina.
