The fire thad a good hold of the interior before -the alarim was given., bait the Ittre Brigade quickly got the outbreak under. Tbo thouse had.been untenanted about three weeks; and the outbreak is put •diown. to incendiarism. The house is, insured in the Oonumoroial Union for £250, and to all appearances is beyond repair. __-__. * r An alarm of fire was given, to tho Brigade al>out 9.4.0 p.m. om Satonday, from a box noair tlhe Star and Garter Hotel, for a fire which occurred a 6ix-roomed : ibflsse, owned and ooouipied by _»Ir Ligihbfoot, situated in Melrose 6treet, off Madras street. The nro was discovered in a fbedrooon, *wid before it was port out by two neighbours exud the motor chemical, it ihad destroyed part of the wall *nd the ceiling. Tlie insurances axe:—Bui-ding £250. and furniture £175 in the National office. The damage is estimated at £10. At about 2.16 on Saturday afternoon a fire started in the dwellinghouse at the school, Oreendale. The house was totally destroyed.. The schoolroom, through the exertions of a number of willing friends, was saved.
