CANTERBURY AUTOMOBILE ASSOCIATION. The annual report of tho committee of the Canterbury Automobile Association, to be presented' at the annual general meeting of members on Tuesday evening, states that' the membership has increased by 37 during the year, and now stands at 175. Tho balance-sheet showed that the receipts for tho year totalled £539 15s 10d, which, with the balance forward from last year, gave q total of £731 3s lOd. The expenditure for the year amounted to £i2o 5s sd>, showing a cash profit on the year's working of £116 10s sd. tThe liquid assets h-ad increased during tho year from £191 8s to £307 18s sd, represented by a fixed den©3it at bank cf £2CO and a" balance of £107 18s Sd. Since the formation of the Association in September, 1903, the membership bad increased from 35 to 175, and the credit balance from £14 0s lid to £307 18s &d. During the year a number of enjoyable runs had been held, but those functions are not zo well attended' as might bo desired. Tho committee had, during trts year, made strenuous effort- to get a bridge across the Waiso for without.success. The Kowai Road Boards took up the matter, and at'the request of that'body, tha committee issued an appeal to members to subscribe. The general opinion among members was that it' was unfair to directly tax one ejection for <a bridge, tho benefits of which would bo enjoyed by all, and tho matter was dropped. . The road was tho only main trunk road in the Dominion with an unbridged river, ana it was to bo hoped tfcat N th_t serious .want would soon be supplied. A most sueoeerful reliability trial was held during the Christmas holidays to Dunedin and return, and tho committee had pleasure in stating that it was the largest trial of its kind ever organised in Australasm. A similar function was being crgaiiised for the ensuing season, and with tho eamo generous assistance from members and friends, it bade fair to bo' an even greater success than the previous trial. Tho committee were pleased to report that, in response to c request from the Association, the City Council had passed a by-law dealing with traffic moving along tho road at a walking pace. The committee had to record with d-eop regret the deaths during tho year of two valuable and well-respected members in the persons' of Messrs J. J. Sinclair and' Geo. G. ' Stead.
