» A motor car on fire was the cause of an alarm being given from Bedford How about 10.28 last evening. _Jy some means an Argyll car belonging to Dr. Thacker, which was in Scott's Motor Works, caught alight. About 1.30 o'clock on Sunday morning, a fire was discorered in one of 'a row of small wooden shops in Fairlie. There are no fire appliances in th© township, and four shops in the building used as a temporary Post and Telegraph Uffice since the destruction of tho .Railway Station a few weeks ago, were burnt down. The block was owned by'H. Fraser, and occupied, by Sutherland and Phillips (butohere),,H. Eraser (auctioneer), Mtb Watts (general store), and Parkes (draper). The budiding adjoining, temporarily occupied by the Bank of New Zealand, was considerably damaged. The insurances on the stock total £600, ajpairt from what may be £260 on jewellery carried by Pal-lees's agent for Jones and Son, of Christehurch. The contents of tlhe Poet Office were saved. Incendiarism is suspected. - s
