Next Saturday will be observed as a public holiday by tho Telegraph Office. The hours of attendance-for the receipt and despatch of telegraphic messages will bo 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and 7 p.m. to midnight. Saturday, the 28th inst., will bo observed as a partial pest office holiday. Tho Christehurch. post office, with the exception of the Money Order and Savings Bank branch, will be open from 8 to 10 a.m. and all mails usually despatched by the early trains will be closed at 6 a.m. These for despatch by the eeoond express and during tho afternoon will close at 10 a.m. There will be no delivery by letter-carriers, but a general delivery" over the public counter will be made between 7 and 8 o'clock on Friday evening. A report on the celebration in Lyttelton of Dominion Day was presented by tho Estates Committee at' last night's meeting of the Borough Council, advising the Council to arrange for a function on the District High School ground at 11 a.m. on Saturday. The report stated that enquiries indicated that the volunteers were not likely to muster, and the committee was of opinion that the school children and the cadets could be asked to muster at the time stated, when the medals could bo presented and the Flag saluted, the Estates Committee to make the necessary arrangements. The report was adopted, and a circular telegram from Sir Joseph Ward, suggesting that the Council should ask citizens to decorate their business places with flags on Dominion Day was referred to the Estates Committee, with power to act. The railway goods sheds at Lyttelton, Christehurch and Ashburton, and the delivery yards at Christehurch, will be closed on Saturday.
