CHARGE AGAINST A REFEREE DISMISSED.

(PBESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) NELSON, September 21. A case of interest to tbobtballers was heard at Takaka by Mr H. Eyre Kenny, S.M., a referee being charged with assault- Complainant was a spectator at a match, and in his enthusiasm encroached upon tlie field of play. Ho remarked upon a ruling of the referee, who thereupon put him off the ground. - Defendant eaid ho understood a referee had solo charge of the ground on the occasion of a match, and that he was acting within his rights. The Magistrate said he had no cases before him to show what legal afutbortity a referee possessed, but he held that defendant acted bona fide in the belief that ho had authority to eject complainant from the enclosure. The charge was dismissed, with costs. £3 9s, against comiplainanit.
