Mr J. C. Blair (London), Mr W. Ronaldson (Hororata), Mr C. A. Knowles (Palmcrston North) arrived in Christchurch yesterday.

It was decided to forward him a case of pipes and a case of razors as a mark of respect, and also to forward a letter with the presents, testifying to the good fellowship which Lad always existed between him and the whole of the staff.

At the meeting of the City Councillast night Cr W. H. Cooper was anpointed Deputy-Mayor during tho absence of the Mayor attending tho Fleet celebrations at Auckland. Mr J. S. Neville was appointed acting-Town Clerk during, the absence <*,f the Town Clerk, who accompanied the Mayor to Auckland.

Miss Akenei Hei, the first Stateregistered Maori nurse in tho Dominion to qualify by examination, has been transferred from tho Napier Hospital to St. Helens Maternity Homo, Christchurch, where she will undergo a further course of training.

Sister Kate (Ivens) has returned from Norfolk Island where for tho last eight years (says the "New Zealand Church News") she has had charge of the"~Mission hospital. In fact, this hospital was founded by her. The authorities of the Melanesian Mission feel keenly the loss of her services. Sister Kate is now living with her mother at New Briahton.
