Ma inane, rector of tiio parish of St. Mary in this city, who passed away about half-past five yesterday afternoon. He was in his usual state of health on Saturday, but yesteixkiy morning he was affected with a seizure, front which he did not recover. The Rev. Father was born in Tipperary in' 1850 aud whs educated at Rockwell College, near Cashel, and afterwards ot St. 'Mary's College, Dundalk. In 1879 he went to Franto, where ho studied at the Ecclesiastical College of the Marist Fathers, and also in Switzerland, but afterwards returned to Ireland, where he completed his religious education at the Catholic University School of Dublin. He wa.s oivkiined at St. Mary's, Dundalk, by Archbishop Redwood in. 1885, and came to New Zealand at the end of that year to take a professorship at St. Patrick's CoLlego, Wellington. On coming to Cthristcliurch, be was at first assistant priest at the pro-Cathedral, and eighteen months later ho was appointed assistant priest at St. Mary's, Manchester street. He took charge of this parish <i!>out 1895, a pc&ition he held till his death. The death is reported of Mrs Browne, wife of Mr J. Oakley Browne, the wellknown Wellington journalist.
