ELEPHANT CHARGES A TRAIN.
An extraordinary story comes from Siam of an elephant charging a passenger train. When tho morudn-g train from Bangkok was near Ban Klap, says tlie "Bangkok Times," an elephant walked out of the jungle on to the track. The driver sounded his whistle, but the elephant, trumpeting loudly, lowered it&'head and charged the oncoming train. So great was tho impact that the elephant was killed oa the spot and the engine derailed and badly damaged. None of the carriages, however, left tlie metals. -"noelephant's tusks were snapped off, bat when a search was made for them they could not he found. During the excitement following the collision some- - - one had walked oft with them.
