G ■ Colonol Porter, Colonel Robin, Dr. Makgill, .amd tho members of tho Anglo-Welsh football team arrived from Wellington by tho Maoxi yesterday morning. Dr. Hay, Inspector-General of Mental Hospitals, left Chri&tchurch for tho West Coast yesterday morning. Mr R. A. Anderson, of J. G. Ward and Company, Invercargill, was in town yesterday. ( He leaves Wellington to-day on a six ' months' holiday trip to the Old Country. Mr R. 'M. MacdonaM left by tho Maori for Wellington last night. Mj- G. MJcClatchie and Mr Bamilton Hodges left by the Maori for Wellington last night. Visitors to town yesterday included j —Messrs W. Moore (Milton), A. Jack i (Bloem-fontem), J. E. Ramsey (Auckland), F. M. Mackie (Oaylon), E. P. H. Burbury (Oamaru), and A. E. Exley (Wellington). Mr G. H. SchdlefieM, of the "New Zealand Times" staff, has been appointed to succeed the late Mr C. Rous-Marten as London correspondence editor for tho New Zealand Associated Press, which comprises "The Press," "Weekly Press," and "Truth" (Christchurch), "Otago Daily Times" and "Witness" (Dunedin), "Evening Post" (Wellington), and "New Zealand Herald" and ."Weekly News" (Auckland). A reception was given to Mr H. Rγ. Roberts, the New Zealand comedian, who is visiting this country after an absence, of nine years, at the' Grand Hotel (Wellington) yesterday morning. It was attended by members of the Julius Knight's and Rickaxds's com-pand-es and many local residents. The Mayor proposed Mr Roberta's health, and tKe proceedings were of a genial and interesting nature. According to the San Francisco «'Oall" of. March 26th, Dr. David Starr Jordan, president of Stanford University, was taken eudderdy and dangerously ill «t San Jose two "days previously. Dr. Jordan was to have delivered a lecture before the Good Government League in East San Jose, but was unable to appear. LateT it became known that he had collapsed, and was in a serious condition. It was reported , that Dr. Jordan was suffering from an attack, of appendicitis. Mr Fred A. Rosewerne has been apporintedi' managing director of Horace J Weeks, Ltd. , On Wednesday evening the memibers of Mr A. A. Bickerton's Linwocd Orchestral Society presented Mrs Bickerton with a silver manicure set and hand mirrojr. Mr Snowball mode-tho presentation, referring to the .great kindness of Mrs Bickerton towards* the members.
