Ho enlisted in the Cameron Scouts during the Boor War, and was shot through <the lunge, bub made a remarkabQo recovery. Subsequently he went to China, where he was attacked by bandits and severely wounded, the Chinese Government paving him £1000 compensation. .
General regret was expressed inLyttelton yesterday at tho dea/tih of Mrs Chambers, wife of tihe Rev. E. Eliot Chambers, vicar of St. Saviour's Church, . West Lyttelton. The deceased lady was well known, and was universally respected. Flags on all the ships in port and public and private buildings were flown at Ihialf-mast as a mark of respect for the deceased lady. '. Another of the old identities has passed away in the person o? Mrs Mungeam, who died at the residence of her daughter, Mrs P. T. Baker, "Seaview," Amberleyi on Wednesday morning. Mrs Mungeam arrived in Wellington in 1853 along with her brother, the Rev. S. Poole v and three sisters. In 1855 ehe married the late Mr T. Mungeam and B©ttled > in New Plymouth. During the Maori war in 18G0 Mr Mungeam,' wlio saw active service, became ill and broken down in health, and shifted to Nelson. Two years later Mr and Mrs Mungeam removed to Canterbury and took to farming at Loburn, where they resided for thirty-three years, after which they retired and lived with therir only daughter, Mrs P. T: Baker, at Amfoerley. Mr Mungeam. who was a great churchman, and who gave the land whore the* Loburn Church now stands, died in 1895. Mrs Mungeam. who had been in excellent health until a fewdays ago, was eighty-four yeare of age.
