A CHARGE OF MANSLAUGHTER

DU.NI3DIN, May 6. At the inquest on the lad Alexander Edgar McPliee, t-lio following verdict was returned:— "Thni the deceased mot his death by dro-.vaing in o<tago Harbour on April 18th, through being thrown out of the oil la.unch ftfaitakana, v -xvljiitfli came in.to coLHedon with tih*. steamer Lady Roberts, eudi oolllisiion 'being coused by the careless handling of the Jaumih by her owner, Jceoph. C'oddoi. particularly so by Jiis shii'ftins: the tiller.it a. critical moment, thus taking his boat right across the bows of the Ividy Roberts'; and we really- thimk lum gmilty of manslaiug'ii'ter." I/ator. Consequent on tho finding of the jury, Jceeph. Coddoi. owner of the Ma-takana, was airrested this afternoon on charge of manslaughter. -The accused was broughit before the Court and reraan<led for a. week, bail being allowed, the accused in his own r«wcrn:isanc& of £100, a.nd two sureties of £50 each.
